Re Edie’s observation; was surprised as well! Am always looking to see what type of frame ‘hookers’ are using. Seems in these gatherings; hoops often appear. Am guessing, that it is not just ‘newbies’; but perhaps these hoops are brought out, too, for their portability. Realize, too, that some people do in fact, like hoops; and if project not too big; are happy enough with it. I had a ‘Puritan’; (lost it during a move) and when I revisited hooking – oh, some twenty years laters/sigh – bought a Snapdragon. Do like it; but find hooking area; just a tad confining at times – and paddles along edges can sometimes be in my way – but it just may be that inexperience and ‘carpal tunnel’ are more my problem/lol. Am still a ‘newbie’; albeit; not a young one; and so challenged as such.

Would love to do a workshop with you Dianne as your beautiful, spirit-filled rugs; are what inspired me to return and ‘learn’. Planning on that…/ ;~)

  2. Edie, hoops are great for beginners and inexpensive but you are right, once they get started most advance to a fancier frame.

Just a quick note to thank you again for a wonderfully creative, inspirational morning! I immediately felt welcomed, even though this only my second studio visit and my first time taking a class. Everyone was helpful and generous with their knowledge and experience. Curiously,I found myself really taking in the richness and beauty of the fall colours on the drive home to Brookfield, imagining how they might be hooked into a future rug! I look forward to treating myself to another visit soon…

This may be a silly question but why are they using hoops instead of a hooking frame? Don’t the hoops get difficult to move and secure when you get a bigger area hooked? Just curious. Thanks. I enjoy reading your blog everyday.

Fibre Fest is one of those adventures in my lifetime that I will treasure forever. I’m sure it’s totally different every time. You made it so very special. I can’t believe it’s that long ago already. Enjoy!
