Change it up

Dear Diary, I heard ice hitting the windows through the night. Ice pellets sounding like the glass might crack. I expected to wake this morning to a glaze of crisp slick ice but instead it was mild and windy. The wind blew all day, throwing things around the yard and melting away the snow.

I nursed a cold and read and drank tea and played on the blog all day. I wandered around the web from blog to blog and saw what I could see. It was like having a stack of magazines. In the afternoon I hooked some trees, and put a grey heavy sky in behind them. Both of the rugs I am working on now have moody skies. I deliberately tried to change the way I hooked them, to get a new feeling, to not rely on what I knew would work but take a a chance on something that might not. For me this is a deliberate decision. I gotta decide to break a habit, because when you know how to make something beautiful one way, it is tempting to go back to it again and again. I try to experiment because without that there really is not any change or progress. Growth is always interesting, even if you get a few hurdles along the way. These rugs I am doing are impressionistic. I am creating the design as I go along. I have no idea what they will be like, no colour scheme, no real feeling in mind. Usually I at least have a feeling. I think you should have a feeling. In stead I just go to the frame and see what comes. There’s a looseness in this that unsettles me, but unsettling feeling are good in art. You should not always know what you are doing.

So below in these photos you’ll sees a day around the house, at the frame, lost in the book, and in the kitchen. It was a cozy day, no commitments, a lost in time kind of day.

As long as what you do is a Happy feeling. I think when you are not feeling so good, you tend to get down in the dumps. I too am nursing a lousy cough and ear infection , Penicillin for that A nostalgic mood has surrounded me due to this I believe. Being house bound for several days gives you time to reflect on your life and surroundings. Out came the camera and as Deanne said, look around for Creativity. I did see the beauty taken forgranted most days and took a few pictures. Not only that, I discovered 12 year old Scotch Whiskey, mixed with honey and lemon juice isn’t a bad pick me up for what ails you. What ever you decide to do on this rug you are pondering over, it will be GOOD!!!!

What a lovely description of a relaxing winter day. I have lived in Texas for 32 years but grew up with winters in Massachusetts. I love the south because we have flowers in bloom year-round but I do miss a day when the world does not pull you out into it. It is a rare thing here. Yesterday was spent pruning roses and picking daffodils.

It has snowed all night and day, here in Southern Alberta. Our 2 grandchildren, who were here for Reading Week, needed to meet their parents. An hour after leaving them we returned home. Weather became, just passable. I think of you all, when I wastch the Weather Channel, Happy Hooking!
