lily again
Dear Diary,
Maybe it is that she comes and takes over my good chair, my only good chair in the studio, like it is her own.
Maybe it’s because she threw her body across it like my cat does, in sudden ownership.
Maybe it is that she never says “Deanne I think you are brilliant” but instead says, “Deanne, you think you’re something dontcha?”
Maybe it is that she has a masters degree in english but still says “dontcha”. Who says “dontcha”?
Maybe it’s that she calls me from dept stores and expects me to stop everything to look at texts and pictures of  $20 clocks that she is considering.
Maybe it’s that she tells me how good she looks in blues, so kept the gorgeous blue scarf for herself, and gave me me the basic brown.
or
Maybe it’s that she knows things because she’s lived it.
Maybe it’s because she loves little children and she lights up when they are around.
Maybe it’s because she is steadfast in love.
Maybe it’s because she has proven she is brave in the face of things and loyal to the depths of things.
Maybe it’s because she does look good in blue, and deserves the scarf.
Maybe it’s because she’s Lily and I’m Deanne, and twenty three years have slipped and slided between us and we know that one is for the other.
Maybe it’s because we know that we are each of us, weak and strong, kind and mean, happy and sad, anxious and calm, soft and hard, miserable and generous in thought and word and deed
Maybe it’s because we are friends after all, because of all,
or maybe it’s just cause she’s Lily
and she makes me shake my head and smile and roll my eyes at the same time.

I know you do Shirley
you know what she is like Corrine, we are lucky to have her
We share the same Lily, Deanne. What a beautiful poetic portrait of the Lily we both love. Spot on!
I love the look of Lilly, her face glows with warmth, fun, laughter. Those blue eyes jump out atcha. I lost my Lilly two years ago after 64yrs of frienship, her name was Margaret. She was my best buddy in England when I was fourteen. When I was 16 my family moved to Canada, four years later Margaret packed up and joined me here. She was one of my bridesmaids. Although she lived out of town we phoned each other constantly,A shoulder to cry on, a listening ear.both of us there for each other.Ah the stories we could tell. Memories of a best friend gone. How lovely it was to read how much Lilly means to you Deanne
My “Lily is Sandra. We can tell each other the truth. Then we will laugh ,cry, or just be. Mostly we just giggle with each other. We went to the “Hope Center ” to look for some used clothing. She helped me to find wonderful wool to use in my rugs.A piece of these fabrics went into a rug I was hooking at that time.I look at that rug and see my friend Sandra.I remember our day of shopping.
Everywoman needs a Lily in their life.
I am lucky to have one too.
I think thats a rug Deanne!
THANK Goodness for all the “Lily”S each of us are blessed to have in our lives. Great to be reminded today Deanne!!
Lily wears great rings!! And has a cheery face!
beautiful woman is Lily…lovely smile and an honest face. It is so nice to have a Lily in your life.
I have a Lily in my life- 37 years I’ve known Betty Ann. Sometimes we laugh and call it a marriage because we are so brutally honest with each other. Everything you could ever say in the way of complaint about Betty Ann will always end with “yeah, but she has a heart of Gold!” So yeah, I’m coming to Nova Scotia and I want to meet LILY!
