Sweet Mary Anne Bars from the Downhomer Cookbook, an old favourite of mine, made in Newfoundland

Melt together:

1/2 cup corn syrup

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 tbsp butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

Mix together over medium heat but do not boil. Add 2 cups rice crisps, half cup peanuts. Press into 8 by 8 pan. Melt chocolate chips and cover base with them. Cool and serve.

The above cook book is available.Checked it out, I think I might like to own one. $19.95. Looks like the recipes are the good old fashion kind.

    Hi Deanne
Would those Molasses Buns be the big soft Molasses cookies I remember from my childhood?
If so I’m gonna try them as soon as I finish my jam making.
    All the best
    Clare

Interesting – i know these as Sweet Marie bars and instead of melted chocolate, my recipe says to make a chocolate butter icing and spread over the top. It’s always intriguing to see how recipes change as they travel – like a game of telephone!
