thanks…no really I mean it…thanks
Dear Diary, Thanks, just a great big thank you for coming to the studio, ?enjoying the fourth annual Nova Scotia Fibre Art Festival, and coming to this years workshops. I have to say as I sit in my quiet little studio that having had you here really made me happy. Last week lots of joy flowed through our streets, it was like a ball of yarn that got away and just kept unravelling. It travelled from … Read entire article »

wear it like you got somewhere to go
Dear Diary, I like clothes. I am not exactly a clothes horse but I like nice clothes. Until I was fourteen my clothes came in a bag from my aunt’s house, hand me down from my cousins. Thru university, I wore second hand clothes. Now a days when I see something pretty I’ll buy it for myself. Once spring comes I wear a dress everyday nearly. When I first moved downtown, my husband told me I … Read entire article »

blooms….some things bloom in february
Dear Diary, Nearly eighteen years ago I met a woman at a craft fair in Sackville. Her name was Haidee Robertson. Over the years she has come workshops, hooked some rugs, had a son, and practiced nursing. She is a busy woman with a full life. Over the years whenever I would see Haidee I would ask what she was making because it seemed to me she was always making something. She explored things with … Read entire article »

red, the queen of colours
Dear Diary, Today we’ll celebrate red a bit….like my red bag, and red boots. I’m not a real seasonal kinda woman, you won’t find my dining table littered with red confetti today , or hearts hanging in my windows but if you wanna talk about red, I’ve got lots to see, and to say. Red is such a strong colour, you can count on it to draw the eye, or bring attention to something. Is it really the … Read entire article »

finding myself between the pages
Dear Diary, Some of the best times I have had, have involved a book. Some might say that is sad, but to me it just says I love to read. I have noticed in the last few years that the more I read, the more I value a story. One time I valued ideas, or books that made me think. I still respect them. I have a few I’d never part with…..but of course we part with everything eventually. We just entertain ourselves with the notion we will not have to. That is just a way of saying that some of my books matter to me more than others. When I read for story, I don’t really care so much about the book as a thing itself. It is just something passing … Read entire article »

be beautiful as you are
Dear Diary, I find it interesting that the more beauty I see, the more I find beautiful. My rugs of women have always been a celebration of the fact that I find beauty in all shapes, ages and sizes. I think as soon as you leave your twenties, perhaps before for the wise few, you see beauty in the eyes, in the hands, of course in the character. I grew up in a house of many women, and I have to say as a child, my mother never wasted any time telling us how beautiful we were. I believe that she believed that she needed to prepare us for a rougher road. It was not just her. My neighbor, who is stunningly beautiful, tells me her mother never once said it … Read entire article »
